En 1802, Thomas Jefferson dijo:

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.'

'Creo que las instituciones bancarias son mas peligrosas para nuestra libertad que los ejercitos. Si la gente de Estados Unidos alguna vez permite a los bancos privados controlar el tema monetario, primero por inflacion, luego por deflacion, los bancos y corporaciones que creceran alrededor de ellos privaran a la gente de todas sus propiedades hasta que un dia sus hijos despierten sin hogar en el continente que sus padres conquistaron.'
